Permission numbers are issued for exceptional academic reasons or in the rare cases in which class scheduling conflicts cannot be resolved by other means. Permission numbers are not issued to provide access to a class taught at a specific time or by a specific instructor. Contact the appropriate department for permission request instructions and forms.
Since the majority of companies and businesses operate on a PC platform, we require all students to have a PC laptop or notebook computer to be better prepared for success in the business world. An Apple/Mac computer with PC software is not the same. There are critical differences in keystrokes and other functions that are taught in class. Google Chromebooks will also not have the required functionality.

Microsoft Office 365 certification is required for all business majors to provide you with advanced skills employers want.
You must pass PowerPoint and Excel in your first year by the published deadline to continue as a business student beyond the first year. Excel is a prerequisite for INSC 20153.
Deadlines: Students must complete Excel and PowerPoint certification requirements by the published deadlines for their entering semester.
- All students entering Summer/Fall 2026 must pass the Excel Exam by November 11, 2026 and the PowerPoint exam by April 7, 2027.
- All students entering Spring 2027 must pass the Excel AND PowerPoint exams by April 7, 2027.
- Tests are offered on weekdays only. Prep classes are offered weekly. Sign up for either through your account at my.tcu.edu, Academic Progress, Neeley, Microsoft Test/Prep. Read the add/drop policy carefully.
- You must sign up once for each test.
- Each test takes approximately 50 minutes.
- You will receive your results immediately upon completing each test, along with a printed score report.
- $75.00 per test per attempt.
- $125.00 for each prep class. (If you fail the test after taking a prep class, you may retake the class at no charge within 30 days of your original class. Call 817-257-5220 to schedule your retake.)
- If you cannot make it to your test/class appointment, cancel at least 48 hours in advance by calling 817-257-5220. If you fail to cancel in time, you will be billed for the test.
Taking your exam outside of TCU is allowed. Locate a Certiport testing center in your area. Neeley will only accept Microsoft Office 365 certifications.
You can send an Authenticated Digital Transcript of Certifications from your Certiport account to SBUMOS@tcu.edu. Please include your TCU student ID number.
For assistance accessing certification documentation, contact SBUMOS@tcu.edu.

How do I get accommodations on the exam?
You must apply for accommodations through Certiport. It can take 10 business days for them to make a decision.
What if I passed in high school or at another location?
You can send an Authenticated Digital Transcript of Certifications by downloading
the PDF of your transcripts from your Certiport account and sending it to SBUMOS@tcu.edu. Neeley will only accept Microsoft Office 365 certifications.
- Testing appointments are scheduled through the MyTCU portal under Academic Progress > Neeley > Microsoft Test/Prep.
- Students select which exam to take when checking in for the appointment.
- Students are encouraged to complete both exams as early as possible.
- If you have a hold on your account or questions about scheduling, contact SBUMOS@tcu.edu.
Are prep classes required?
Prep classes are optional but highly recommended. Students who complete prep classes
have significantly higher first-attempt pass rates and may retake the class at no
additional cost within 30 days if they do not pass the exam.
If I am getting emails about the deadline, do I need to take the exam?
If you continue receiving deadline reminder emails, our records indicate you have
not yet completed the requirement. Contact SBUMOS@tcu.edu if you believe this is incorrect.
What if I have a hold on my account?
Contact SBUMOS@tcu.edu to schedule a test or class.
Can I take courses as Pass/No Credit?

career center. Adding a second major may affect graduation timelines.
Can the same course apply to both my major and my minor?

general business minor, you may substitute that course for ACCT 20653 in the minor
requirements.
Can I graduate in four years?
Yes. Most students can graduate in four years by averaging approximately 15 credit

contact the Neeley Academic Advising Center for overload approval procedures.
If I took a Lower-Division Requirement at another university, does the grade count?

your Lower-Division Requirements GPA.
I want to minor in business. Can I meet with a TCU Neeley advisor?
Students interested in a business minor should work with their primary academic advisor.
See general business minor courses.

Admitted students receive an articulation form showing how previous coursework transfers

Does my GPA transfer?
Transfer GPA does not carry into your official TCU GPA. However, transferred lower-division
courses are included in your Lower-Division Requirements GPA.
Do I have to go to orientation?
Orientation is strongly recommended and includes important advising and registration
information for new students.
